ZADAR GO BACK
| Zadar
is a town (having 70 000 inhabitants) in the Middle of the Croatian Beach.
In the Middle Ages for a long time it was the capital of this area (called
Dalmatia), which belonged once to Hungary (known as Zara), other times to
the Venetian Republic. The name Zadar is well-known from the South Slavic
War, because it was one of the highly targeted areas of war attacks
(bombing). The small ancient downtown – which was perfectly rebuilt
after the last war – has many historical monuments. We started our evening visit in the port. After having crossed a small bridge, we entered in the ancient town through the city gate. We took pictures on the Roman Forum (Sveti Donato and Sveti Stosija Churches) and on the sea promenade (Sveti Franje Monastery). Sveti means Saint. |
Zadar
70 000 lakosú város, a horvát tengerpart közepén fekszik. A középkorban
sokáig Dalmácia fővárosa volt (magyarul Zára néven ismert), egyes isőszakokban
pedig a Velencei Köztársasághoz tartozott. Zadar nevét a délszláv háború
idején sokszor lehetett hallani, mivel egyike volt a legerősebben bombázott
területeknek. A parányi óvárosban sok történelmi műemlék van, és
szerencsére ezeket sikerült teljesen helyreállítani. |
