CAIRO

Cairo is a city of 22 million inhabitants, the capital of Egypt and a semi-mythical center of the
Arab world.  The city is well-structured, has wide avenues. Masses of people, buildings,
heavy traffic, cacophony of car horns ..... and the magical blue Nile: THIS IS CAIRO
We stayed in a small hotel not far from Midan Tahrir, and spent there 3 days trying to have
some impressions and to visit some of the most outstanding site.

Midan Tahrir is the main square in Cairo.  View from Cairo Tower (island Al-Gezira). View from Cairo Tower (island Al-Gezira). This tree has roots coming from the top. (island Al-Gezira)

View from a Nile bridge. Cairo Tower and Hotel Sheraton.  Greek Orthodox monastery in Old (Coptic) Cairo.   St. George Church inside the monastery. Beautiful marble yard of the monastery.

Mosque Al-Azhar. The left tower has two peaks, symbolizing Shiits and Sunits.  Mosque Al-Azhar. Souq Khan Al-Khalili, famous bazar of Cairo. Walking in the souq,
I wore traditional dress, so I could avoid harassing...

Citadel in Cairo. Local traffic was quite hectic...as usual.... Mosque Mohammed Ali (in the Citadel).
Built: 1830-48
Amazing Islamic art in Mosque Mohammed Ali. Tourists in mosque Mohammed Ali.

We hired this car in Cairo. This was our plate number. Can anybody read it ? Green fields and palm trees in the Nile Valley. We had to stop at the police checkpoints in each village and town. Police were always very polite.
