NATIONAL PARK STELVIO / STILFERSJOCH         BACK
National Park STELVIO, founded in 1935  was first national park in Trentino and one 

of the oldest in Italy. It is the largest park not only among the Italian parks, but also in the whole Alpine chain.

Majestic ridges, green forests, high mountain green grasslands crossed by foaming streams springing from 

perennial glaciers form the landscape of the Park.

Passo dello Stelvio 2758 m Hairpin curves leading to Passo di Stelvio. Even in the heights of 2700 m Ortler Group was a scene of serious fights during 1st World War. Ortler Peak with 3905 m was the highest point ofthe Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

 

           

Passo dello Stelvio (2758 m) is the second highest motorable pass in Europe. It is a touristical center with hotels, shops and ski schools. A starter point for mountain climbers.
