Garden Route is one of the most spectacular areas of South Africa,
where mountains align close to the coastline, dotted with sandy beaches
and bays, and the landscape is vividly colored by wild flowers, .... all
delighting your eye.
We had to return the Landrover Defender, but still had three more days before
flying home. We decided to
hire a smaller car, and drive along the beautiful Garden
Route. On the first day we drove from Cape Town to Knysna, and
stayed there in a small hotel.
After leaving Cape Town on
N2 road, the panorama from the curvy road was more and more spectacular. |
We returned our Land Rover (see in background), bit still had three more days, and hired this Nissan Almera. |
The weather was rainy, the sky was covered by clouds. |
The weather was improving, and the panorama was more spectacular. |
When it stopped raining, so we could stop for a break at a nice place.... |
... where this was the amazing panorama. Everything so lush due to the frequent rains. |
The hills were covered by aloea. |
Aloe had nice red flowers. |
The little curvy river was beautiful. |
On the hill top a group of nice trees. |
More aloes ... |
... and the stunning aloe flowers. |
We have seen lot of ostrich farms. |
Beside of the road there was the old road bridge, used only for 'bungy jumping'. |
Mossel Bay is a nice resort town at the Indian Ocean. |
We made a short walk (in rain). |
Mossel Bay has super beach, but this time too cold and too rainy. |
A nice biulding of Cape Dutch style. |
We stopped at a parking place, and noticed a tunnel under the highway. |
Through the tunnel we could to a spectacular foot path under the highway. |
The panorama was stunning: endless sandy beach, foamy waves of the ocean.... |
This is Kaaimans Bridge (36m
high) |
The coast is rich of beautiful lagoons and small bays. |
Knysna is a nice town among the lagoons. It has hilly parts, and also a flat district. |
An interesting, nice building in Knysna. |
An original elephant skeleton is in the shop-window of the tourist office. |
Wayside Inn was our hotel for one night. |
We had this cozy little room. |
