SOUTHERN AFRICA 2004

We spent the whole day in the Namib Desert. It was a surprise to find the Balaton Hungarian Restaurant in the desert town, Keetmanshope. By the end of the day we arrived to  Sesriem Camp, where jackals were running around during the night.

Wild ostrich in the desert.

Footprint on the road.
Perhaps ostrich.. or who knows what else

Breakfast on the road...

River crossing. We did not have too much like this...

Keetmanshope is a town in the desert. It has wide streets and many shops.

A typical local man in the street.

Namibia has good beers: TAFEL is one of those, ... and of course WINDHOEK and other Hansa Pils type beers.

Click on this! A Hungarian restaurant! It is called BALATON.

Imre Szabo was the owner, but he passed away few years ago. The restaurants still has Hungarian dishes on the menu.

We ordered chicken liver in Hungarian style, and pancakes.
 It was tasty... :)

Typical faces on the street.

Again a nice tree, and interesting bird nests.

These nests are really masterpieces of the local bird-industry. There are petrol stations even in the Namib Desert. The sun is going down quite early (end of June - about 6 p.m. )
Sesriem Camp is a real experience to stay. Each site has an own tree and stone fence. Privacy is fully ensured... but ....
... during the night jackals were hanging around us, trying to get food from our neighbours.
Great and exciting night!!! :)))
