CORSICA (CORSE)

Island Corsica is a masterpiece of the nature, the world of the beauty. Corsica  one the most
fascinating and  most charming places of the Mediterranean. Greeks were used to naming it
"kalliste", the island of beauty.
The Moor's Head is the symbol of Corsica, 'imported' by the kings of Aragon in the 13th century.
We spent there 3 and half days (which was not too much).  We stayed in different campings
and made lot of excursions.

Our ferry left from Livorno port (Italy) in the morning. It took four hours to arrive in Bastia (Corsica).

Cap Corse is a narrow peninsula on the northern peak of Corsica.

Hollow cliffs in North-West Corsica. This kind of cliffs was very typical.

A long and nice sand beach in North-West Corsica (at village Lozari).

Swimming in the crystal-clean water was super !

Excursion in the romantic Asco Valley. The mountains are wild, the road is narrow, viaducts are old....

We stopped on the mountain pass of
'Col de Vergio'.

Pigs are walking everywhere on the island.

A lonely tree on the mountain pass...
and magnificent panorama...

The famous 'Col de Vergio', the high mountain pass marked by a towering statue of Jesus. This is the division between the North and South of Corsica.

More pigs on the road...

Porto is a delightful sea town in a charming bay, surrounded by high rocky mountains.

On the top of the little rock a Genoese tower can be seen.
Those type of towers can be found nearly everywhere on the island, since the island was ruled by Genova between 1284 and 1768.

Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica, with 60.000 inhabitants.
Napoleon Bonaparte was born here on August 15, 1769.
The nice square is called Palmers Square, not far from the sea port.

South Corsica.
Rocks, mountains, forests...

 Beautiful panorama in South Corsica.

The clouds are 'sitting' on the mountain.

High rocks, green pine trees, and forest flowers.

Bonifacio is a port town in South Corsica. We had difficulty to hold back our fear of seeing these buildings on the edge of the cliffs. The port of Bonifacio.
Moby Lines will take us to Sardegna.

The sight of the white limestone cliffs with the houses on the top was breathtaking (even if this photo is a little dark)
