TUNIS, CARTHAGO, SIDI BOU SAID,
             NORTH COAST, TABARKA

Tunisia is a country of superb beaches, spectacular desert scenery of Great Sahara,
and a wealth  of historical sites dating back 2500 years ago, when the ancient city of Carthago
dominated the Mediterranean area. Besides Romanic and Punic archeological sites,
masterpieces of Arab-Islamic architecture attract the visitors.
Our 'home' was our own Mitsubishi Pajero, equipped with navigation tools (GPS and computer),
which we took by ferry to Tunisia. Our Hungarian plate number was unique, and also not many
foreign car occurred on the streets.

Our first picture in Tunisia. It was taken in town Soliman. We were 'brave enogh' to go to a coffeeshop for a coffee. (Those places are only for men!)

Midan '7 Nov 1987'. This was the date when the current president, Ben Ali seized the power from his predecessor, Habib Bourguiba, whose statue he changed to a big clock. The clock is a symbol of passing time.

Tabarka is a small resort on the North Coast, close to the Algerian border. Practically a place with no tourists. In 1952 it was a suitable place of exile for Habib Bourguiba.
