CHOTT EL-JERID, DOUZ, SAHARA

Great Sahara... The unique salt lake 'Chott El-Jerid', sand sea, sand storm experience ...
- all  very special experiences. After a magical day we returned to our amazing Hotel Tuaregh.

Chott El-Jerid is an immense salt lake of 5000 sq km. It is dry for the greatest part of the year. We had the impression of driving through a huge snowfield.

Date palm groves are spreading over a huge area.

Hotel Tuaregh in the middle of 'nothing'...

...and the splendid entrance hall...

... and the swimming pool and the garden of the hotel.

Water is of high value in the desert.
'Theodora' could use this for marketing purposes... :)

The immense sand sea...

Conquering the desert....

Usual evening activity of men... sitting and talking.
I wonder where are the women... maybe working at home.

The kids are sitting separately...

Sunset in the desert. The air was full of sand, later it turned into a sand storm.

Our navigation tools: Magellan GPS, computer with Fugawi software and paper map of Michelin.

Footprints in the desert.
Our steps created a 'CRASH' sound, just when walking on icy snow.
