TOUZEUR
AND AROUND
West Tunisia has
fascinating landscapes: canyons, gorges, desert, oasis. The beautiful old
Berber villages Tamerza, Midès and Chebika are situated close to the
Algerian border.
Tozeur is an interesting old town, with a huge palm grove around it.
Midès is an ancient village built around a fascinating gorge, just 1 km from the Algerian border. |
Tamerza is situated in a valley, surrounded by mountains. The old town is no more inhabited. |
This camel is having 'vacation' among green plants in an oasis. |
A waterfall close to Tamerza. |
This is the same waterfall, and the amazing landscape. |
Highway rules must be kept in the desert as well. |
This road sign does not occur in Europe: 'Camels on the road' |
This lake is getting more and more dry. |
Less and less water in this river. |
These hedges are intended to protect the road from the sand. |
Touzeur. The architectural style of the mosque is very typical in the town: the bricks are put in a special order, forming special patterns. |
Typical Touzeur houses. Have a look on the fashion: young people wear jeans and T-shirt, while the older inhabitants stick to the traditional dresses. |
