Stories
|
(1) Ámon László (Laci) was an active little boy. In Mosonszentjános he climbed up on the roof, and was not able to come down. The shop assistants had to bring him down. (2) In the shop they sold concrete rings for water wells. Once he pushed the rings and broke many of them. His father Henrik was very angry with him. (3) Once he wanted to piss on the cock. The cock attacked and hurted his “little worm”. (4) They had a German Fraulein (baby sitter) who took them for walk. During walking Laci, Hédike and Dulika created a funny rhyme: “Pipiske vimedli, szúrós tőzsde bíró.” (This cannot be translated, because has no sense in Hungarian.) They kept repeating this rhyme during the way. The children did not talk Hungarian, they could talk German only. Later in the school they learned Hungarian. (5) Laci was a warm-hearted boy. Without asking his parents, he took fresh rolls (kifli) from the shop and distributed those among his schoolmates. (6) Through many years Laci received the same Christmas present which was a rocking-horse. When he was little bit older he told to his parents: “I would like to have something else now for Christmas, not always the same horse”. (7) Laci remembers his parents, how they talked to each other. Whenever Ámon Henrik talked to his wife, Ella, he started with: “Hallja, Ella...” (means “Listen, Ella...”). (8) During the religion lesson in the school the priest notified the children to have much respect to their parents. They should not use for theitr parents such nicknames as "Papszi" or "Mamszi". These two nicknames was so funny for Laci, that from that day he called his father "Papszi" and his mother "Mamszi." (9) Laci remembered his uncle, Kozmann/Ardai Lajos who went by foot from Budapest to Belgrád (Beograd) to his sister, Mariska. Mariska (Kozmann Mária) got acquainted her husband (Mr Orehek, a man from in Slovenia) in a wedding in Pécs. Mariska’s grandfather Kuzman Joannes lived in Pécs and he was a general manager of the coal mines. (10) Ámon László, in 1925-26, at the age of 10, was in the first class of a Secondary School, in town Gyõr. This was a state school, but he lived at the Dormitory of the Benedictine monks. He was not able to complete this class, he failed in the exam of "religion", because he knew this subject only in German but not in Hungarian. Then he repeated the first class in Budapest, in a technical school (Bolyai Reál Iskola) which was in Markó street. In the second class, in the second semester he was in Sváb hegy children resort-school (today Szabadság hegy), and due to this he passed his exams in September as a private student. His sister Dulika also spent few years in the same children resort-school. (11) Ámon László was able to complete class six also in two years. In the graduation exams he had to repeat one exam: the physics. His mother, Ella went to the teacher asking him to let Laci pass the exam. (12) In the Dormitory of Győr (Győri Kollégium) he was bitten by a dog, and remains of the wound was seen on his knee during his whole life. (13) Autumn of 1926 the Ámon family moved to Budapest. For a short time they lived in József street, in the flat of his uncle (Kozmann/Ardai Lajos). Then they moved to the 5th district (today it is 13th district) in Sziget street 38. Then they moved to 3rd district, Zsigmond square. (This house does not exist today.) Then they moved to 3rd district, Bécsi street 88., groundfloor 26. This block was the so-called “City Houses” (Városi házak). Then they moved to 2nd district, in Csalogány street 50. (Today this house is 1st district, Hattyú street 16.). Here lived Ámon László from autumn1934 until his death (53 years long!) |

In the Passion he sang as Judas. They sang Budavari Te Deum and Psalmus Hungaricus from Kodály Zoltán and also the 9th Symphony from Beethoven. |
