BOLZANO / BOZEN
Bolzano/Bozen (262 m above sea level, 97.000 habitants) is the chief town of South Tyrol 
(called Süd Tirol by the Germans, and  Alto Adige by the Italians)
The town is situated on a plain where rivers  Isarco and Adige join. Bolzano and the whole area 

is a bilingual territory where Italian and German are widely spoken, and both used as official
languages. The culture is an interesting mixture of the German and Latin world. Counts of Tyrol,

Dukes of Austria, the Habsburgs and the Italians all built here buildings, castles, towns and villages.

Bolzano. Museum of Archology. many tourists are queuing up for  meeting Ötzivel...	But who is Ötzi? A 5000 years old man whose body was found under the ice.	The mumificated body of Ötzi is displayed in a  special cabin, but no  photo was allowed there,  so we took photo of this hologram Ötzi.	The charming houses of  the main street.

The nice greenmarket in Bolzano.	The gothic Cathedral by Piazza Walther,  dating  back to the 12th and 14th Centuries, featuring  a 65 m high bell tower.	The magnificent baroque main altar.

MERANO / MERAN
A charming town (325 m above sea level) of green plants, maple trees, magnolias, palms, colored flowerbeds, 
trimmed hedges forming artistic figures. Narrow streets, old houses, churches recall the Austro-Hungarian times.
The town is surrounded by fascinating mountains. 

The spectacular panorama  of Merano.	There are green parks and walking pathes along River Passirio.	Merano area is famous of horses.  The Haflinger Horse is  a 'trademark' all over the world.	A typical street in Merano.

Cathedral Saint Nicolò,  built in 1263 in gothic  style.	The majestic Gothic navy  of the church.	A narrow street and  one of the town gates.	This house was our  favourite.
